The Rivalry Runs Deep
Football and rivalries got hand in hand. A game filled with so much aggression, emotion and sacrifice is going to lead to animosity between teams. The Packers and The Bears, The Chiefs and Cowboys, and in the IFL it is The Muskego Hitmen and The Madison Seminoles ( or the Verona Trojans... Now Madison Mustangs).
You could use any number of cliches to describe this rivalry - "No love loss", "Bad Blood", etc. The fact is that there is an intense hate that separates these two teams. To make matters worse, this rivalry was spawned through events unrelated to football.
How It Came To Be
After a weekly IFL game a few of the Hitmen and Seminole players crossed paths en route to the exit of the stadium. Your typical trash talking about the upcoming meeting between the two teams proceeded and from there it escalated. Threats were issued.
A Hot Lugee In The Face
Embellishments of the story over the years have lead to speculations of a knife being drawn and even firearms. However, one confirmed fact remains. A player of the Seminoles roster spit in the face of one of our fellow Hitmen, Andy Konkel. A rivalry was spawned from a hot lugee in the face.
From this day forward, every meeting between these to teams has been a heavyweight title fight - A fight to the finish. And quit literally, a fight! The final meeting of 2006 between these two teams ended in a "Baseball-like, bench clearing fist fight" at the 50 yard line.
We keep track of how many bones we've broken
Not something the Hitmen are proud of, but it shows you just how deep the distaste between these teams run. The refs keep track of how many points each team has scored. We keep track of how many bones we've broken.
Tempers run high and the adrenaline pumps hard each time Muskego & Madison face off. As you could imagine, many players are looking for any and every excuse to lay a cheap shot in these games. You can almost see the fire their eyes!
One thing is for sure, every game between Muskego & Madison is a hard hitting defensive war. Neither team is willing to give up a yard. In the past 3 years, the last 5 games have been decided by less than 10 points collectively!
A playoff game that went into 3OT quarters and ended in a final 6 - 3 score is still talked about in the halls of the IFL.
Fuel On The Fire
In back to back seasons ( 2005 & 2006 ) The Hitmen have fallen to Madison in the first round of the playoffs. You had better believe we have this game circled on our calendar every year, and so should you! This will be one for the story books.
Put on your Hitmen gear and sit with friends!
We can not promise a high scoring affair for this game. What we can promise is the r elentless, hard hitting brand of football that The Hitmen have trademarked!
If there is only one game you come to see, this is the game to watch. The fans of the IFL come out in flocks to these games and are as passionate about this rivalry as the players. So put on your hitmen gear and sit with friends, because the fans hit almost as hard as the players!
