This History Of The Hitmen

How did I become head coach of the Muskego brandonHitmen? Well, originally I came to the games as a spectator, as my brother ( Brandon Blawat ) plays on the team.

After a game early in the Hitmen's inaugural season, Jason Huckstorf asked if I could come to the sidelines to call offensive plays and manage the game.  The rest is history.

Huckstorf asked if I would help call offensive plays, the rest is history

Since coming on with the Muskego Hitmen, Coach Blawat has helped guide the organization down a fairly successful road. obtaining 5 playoff births (2003-2007), banquette3 conference championships as well as 3 Ironbowl appearances (2003, 2004 & 2007).

In the 2005 IFL season the Hitmen Steam rolled and bullied their way to the first ever undefeated regular season and again in 2007. And not to mention in 2004 we captured the greatest prize in the league - The Ironbowl Championship.

My Philosophy

My primary goal during the season is to create a well-oiled machine.  That means that everyone on the field, whether it be offense, defense or special teams; knows where they need to line up, where they need to go in certain situations, when they need to be there and what they need to do when they get there! When my players are on the field I have to have the confidence that they are all sure of what is going on.

If I can do that, we will do well. I understand that physical mistakes will happen - That is a part of the game. If we were always perfect, every play would be a touchdown. championshipPhysical mistakes will happen on almost every play. I will not, however, tolerate mental mistakes. If I don't think you understand what you are supposed to do, I will pull you off the field in a heartbeat.

Team play before individual accomplishments

One of the things I make clear very early in the year to all of the players both old and new is that the Muskego Hitmen's primary focus is to win football games. Team play before individual accomplishments.

If you come to this team because we have a history of winning and you think you will be able to pad your stats - You are on the wrong team. warmupsIf you think you the best player in the league and are not willing to split your time with another player or even stand on the sidelines - you are on the wrong team.

This message seems to take root in the hearts of my players. The ones that were here to look good and talk the talk tend not to come back. The ones who want to win games and be apart of a championship caliber team keep coming back.

Strength in organization and routine

I think the two things that really make what I do stand out more so than other coaches in the league is my sharp practiceattention to detail. I believe in strength in organization and routine.

When I come to practice, I have a minute - by minute script of what will happen that day, and I follow that script to the letter. The team goes through the same warm - up, stretching and team drills every practice.

Everything is perfect before we step on the field

Before every game we do exactly the same thing with small additions. I make sure everyone knows where they are on offense, defense, special teams, subs, audibles, colors, pregame 2number systems -

Everything is perfect before we set foot on the field. Remember, I will not tolerate mental mistakes.

I believe that staying in the same routine keeps everyone comfortable and it is that feeling of comfort that will allow your players to play their best come game day.

Direction of the Team

Every year our main goal is no different than any other team in this league - To win the Iron Bowl. However, nothing is owed to the Hitmen, and we have to continue to earn respect in the IFL. It is my job to keep the players humble.

Just because we have a championship under our belt, doesn't mean that we will ever win another. We have to play every game with the same hunger as we did game 1, no matter how good or bad we perceive the other team to be.

If we play like a family, the sky is the limit

The Hitmen play the game hard and they play the game for the right reasons. As I mentioned earlier, I tell everyone one what our mission is at the beginning of the year, and if they are not on the same page - Walk pregameout now.

Every year you will see a lot of familiar face line up on the field .These players are the heart and soul of the Muskego Hitmen. With our core guys in place and if we play like a family, the sky's the limit.

Notice that I'm not looking to add the biggest , fastest or the strongest players to the roster. Players themselves don't win games and that is not what we are not about here. If the team can come together like a family we will succeed. I think our history in the IFL has reflected that.
