The List Grows On....

When the 2008 season ended I, along with 50+ other Hitmen was left with a bad taste in my mouth. We were defeated by a team that we had trounced just weeks before. A good team no doubt, but even they knew they had snuck one by us. I was pissed! All I could think about was next year. I knew I was coming back with a nasty taste that had been brewing for 8 months. I couldn't wait to beat them in 09! Then something happened that changed my life. I got an offer to move to Cincinnati, OH for a much better paying job. I took it. It was tough leaving my friends that I have known for several years behind, but everyone has to grow up and make important decisions at some point in their lives. On the eve of December 31st, my girlfriend Diana and I shut the doors and put Milwaukee in our rear view mirror headed to wards bigger and better things. We got here and everything was immediately better. Warmer weather, faster speed limits, cheaper gas, cheaper everything really. As the weather started to get warmer, I started to get an itch that usually doesn't come til later in the year. An itch to play football!

Holy Sh*t! I don't have football anymore!

I immediately got on the computer and searched for football teams in the Cincinnati area. As I expected, I found a ton. One particular team caught my eye. The Kentucky/Ohio Xtreme. I went to a couple of their functions and decided that I could see myself playing for them. Practices were indoor on field turf 2 times a week. Football is football, but something just wasn't the same. I felt like I was just playing a game... Football in itself is a sport or game. 11 X's against 11 O's. Most points win, simple right? WRONG! That's what people see who haven't played the game. However, those of your who have know that it is much much more than that. It is a family. A time where you can get away from everything else in your life and just have fun. An escape from work. A time to re-live the glory days, or maybe lead up to them. No, football isn't just a game to me. It's a way of life that I refuse to let go of. It was then that I knew I had to go back to the Hitmen. I let them know that I would like to play in 3-4 games this year. I wasn't sure if they would be okay with it to be honest with you. Thankfully they were happy to have me back. I immediately felt better. My plan was simple. I was going to play 6-7 games with the Xtreme, and 3-4 with the Hitmen. Then I went to the combine in Wisconsin. It was like night and day being with the Hitmen compared to the Xtreme. All of the sudden the schedule changed. I was going to split the games 5-5. The Xtreme were not too happy with it, but they understood to an extent. Just a few days ago I decided to drive up to Muskego for practice. I wanted everyone to know, that I am still a part of the Hitmen even though I am so far away. I had a great time. I definitely needed it too! I was no where near game ready. I left the practice knowing what I had to work on and it was well worth the 12 hour trip. When I got home I did some thinking. I could just fly to Wisconsin for some of the games. That way the drive won't be so bad every week. Well, if I'm going to do that I might as well go to more games. So I called up the Xtreme and let them know I would not be playing with them this year. This is the first anyone from the Hitmen is hearing about this. I will no longer be playing in 3-4 games, or even 5 games. I will be playing in 7-8 games plus playoffs! I'm committed gentlemen. Let's go get us that championship!

July 25th - Monarchs (maybe)
August 1st - Mustangs
August 8th - Spartans

Championship!

It's a word that brings guys together every year around the same time in Muskego. A word that to some people, changes the way they lead their lives. I am one of those people. 2009 will mark my 16th season of football. The previous 15 years, I joined a group of guys who were all chasing that same word. Ive never accomplished it... Sure conference championships here and there, but never the one that really matters.

I want to win it all!

Am I bad luck? Do I bring the team down? Should I just hang the pads up? Have I lost a step? All these questions have run through my head before. THIS YEAR I want that all to end! THIS YEAR I want to hush all the naysayers! THIS YEAR I want to be standing with my Hitmen brothers as we hoist the trophy above our heads as CHAMPIONS! I want to fight for a team that is made up of a group of guys that will give everything they have for the guy next to them to achieve that goal! Make no mistake, I would die on that field for every one of you who have earned the right to call yourselves "Hitmen". These are the things that make a championship team!

It's not always the team with the biggest names, the deepest roster, or the most talent. It is the team that is made up of a group of brothers who's bond cannot be broken. A brotherhood that REFUSES to let each other down! I'll tell you this right now. I would not drive 12 hours round trip to play for a team that didn't have a secure place in my heart. All I ask is this, if you are not in this to achieve perfection - find a new team. This most likely will be my last season with the Muskego Hitmen. I will be moving even farther south next year making it nearly impossible for me to commit myself enough to the team. 2009 has to be the year! Every single play, I will be fighting with everything I have to win the battle against the guy in front of me. I will be playing every play as if it is my last! If we all do this, I promise you, we will be CHAMPIONS!
